non-thesis M.Sc. and Distance Learning M.Sc. Programs
(Graduate Transfer included)

General Information for Application to Graduate Programs

  • For Master of Science (MSc) or PhD applications, candidates must hold Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, respectively. For conditional pre-application to MSc or PhD study, candidates must be in their final semester of Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree study. Candidates who graduated from non-thesis MSc program are not eligible to apply for PhD programs. Only those who were enrolled in master’s non-thesis program before 6/2/2013 can apply for PhD programs.
  • It is desirable that candidates hold Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline they intend to apply. If candidates hold a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree of another discipline than they applied for, they are entitled to Scientific Preparation Program to be determined by the Department and Executive Board of the Institute.
  • The candidates must present their graduation (documents) diplomas during the registration dates.
  • The candidates can apply for at most 2 different programs. However, they can enroll in only one program except non-thesis MSc programs.
  • The candidates must sit for all the exams and interviews announced on the website of the Institute. Otherwise, their applications will not be taken into consideration.
  • The candidates who are invited for an interview are determined by a jury who comply with the guidelines and regulations established by the Senate on the basis of ALES score, GPA and written exam done by the department. The number of candidates who will be shortlisted for interview is 20 for the programs with a quota of 10 students or below. For the programs with a quota of 10 students or above, there will be a twofold increase in the number of the candidates called for the interview.
  • For substitute candidates; “ALES score, GPA, deparmental exam for the program, and interview scores of candidates will be evaluated and the calculated scores will be listed from the highest to lowest to form the main list. This list will be limited by the quota and announced together with the list of substitute candidates. During the registration dates, empty quotas will be announce for registration instead of candidates who are not enrolled. Pre-registration will be applied with receiving of petition from the substitute candidates at related date/dates. This petition is for determining of candidates who are gained to apply. Substitute candidates who do not give pre-registration petition, will be not accepted even they have high scores. All of candidates who applied pre-registration by petition, will be ordered from the highest to lowest score at the end of the day. The list of substitute candidates that is basis of empty quota, will be announced for registration. At related date/dates, the substitute candidates who will be gained for registration, will apply for registration to relevant institute thus the registration will be ended. (The substitute candidates list will be announced on website of relevant institute because of this list will be determined by basis of petition)
  • Graduate processes have been applied upon Graduate Education and Training Regulations by the Council of Higher Education dated on April 20, 2016 with a record of number 29690 published in the official gazette. Those applications left to the Institutes will be used in the Regulations of our University.

Admission Requirements

Master of Science Programs (M.Sc.)
  • Minimum ALES score of 60 or relevant GRE score of 151 valid for 3 years are required. The candidates applying to Foreign Citizens quotas are not required to show the ALES or GRE score.
  • For English instructed Programs, minimum YÖKDİL, KPDS, YDS, e-YDS, ÜDS, or Marmara University Foreign Language Exam score of 60 are required. YÖKDİL, YDS, KPDS, e-YDS and ÜDS are valid for 5 years.
  • For Turkish instructed Programs, minimum score of 40 in aforementioned exams.
    Accepted Foreign Language Exams by UAK (Council of Interuniversity) are CAE, CPE, TOEFL iBT, PEARSON PTE Academic.
  • For those who are applying only Computer Engineering (English) program, minimum ALES score of 70 or relevant GRE score of 153 is required and undergraduate GPA score must be at least 2.40 out of 4.  
PhD (after Master of Science Degree)
  • Minimum ALES score of 65 or GRE score of 152 valid for 3 years are necessary. The candidates applying to Foreign Citizens quotas are not required to show the ALES or GRE score.
  • Minimum YÖKDİL, YDS or ÜDS score of 60 or equivalent exam scores accepted by UAK (Council of Interuniversity) are required.
    Accepted Foreign Language Exams by UAK (Council of Interuniversity) are CAE, CPE, TOEFL iBT, PEARSON PTE Akademic.
  • For those who are applying only Computer Engineering (English) program, minimum ALES score of 70 or relevant GRE score of 153 is required and undergraduate GPA score must be at least 3.00 out of 4.  
PhD (after Bachelor of Science Degree)
  • Minimum ALES score of 80 or relevant GRE score of 156 valid for 3 years are necessary. The candidates applying to Foreign Citizens quotas are not required to show the ALES or GRE score.
  • Minimum YÖKDİL, YDS or ÜDS score of 60 or equivalent exam scores accepted by UAK (Council of Interuniversity) are required.
    Accepted Foreign Language Exams by UAK (Council of Interuniversity) are CAE, CPE, TOEFL iBT, PEARSON PTE Akademic.
Non-thesis M.Sc. and Distance Learning Programs (at evening school)
  • ALES score is not required in non-thesis programs.
  • Turkish programs does not require any Foreign Language score.
  • Programs instructing in English: Minimum YDS, ÜDS, or Marmara University Foreign Language Exam score of 60 or equivalent exam scores accepted by UAK.
    Accepted Foreign Language Exams by UAK (Council of Interuniversity) are CAE, CPE, TOEFL iBT, PEARSON PTE Akademic.
  • Evaluation is assessed only by the GPA on the transcript.

Graduate Transfer Applications from another Graduate Programs
  • Applications will NOT be made online. Documents must be directly submitted to the Institute.
  • Candidates who have successfully completed at least one semester in a higher education graduate program will be accepted in accordance with the University rules and criteria for applied program.
  • Candidates should meet the foreign language requirement for applied graduate program if any.

 Required Documents:

  • An official letter from the home institution stating that the candidate is registered (The letter must state the date of enrolment)
  • A document stating that the candidate has no disciplinary punishment (It could also be stated in the transcript.)
  • Academic Transcript
  • The content of the courses the candidate completed and curricula (certified by the Institute)
  • A copy of Turkish ID card for citizens and a copy of passport for Foreign citizens. When you applied, bring the original one if not certified.
