History of the Institute

Institute for Graduate Studies in Pure and Applied Sciences was founded within the Rector’s office of Marmara University in accordance with the delegated legislation no 41 on 10 July 1982.

Studies toward to the degree for MSc. and PhD. started in March 1983, targeting education and training, scientific research and application to be done in the departments at

  • Faculty of Engineering,

  • Faculty of Technical Education,

  • Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and

  • Atatürk Faculty of Education whose departments were related to Pure and Applied Sciences and Music education.

After the establishment of the Institute in 1982, Prof. Dr. Reşat OTMAN became the first director of the institute, and retired on age limit January 2nd, 1984. Right after him, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erol YARIZ continued as a deputy director of the Institute only for a year.

Prof. Dr. Cemil ŞENVAR, appointed as institute director on December 31st, 1984, administrated the institute for about 6 years and then retired.

After appointed on July 11th, 1990, Prof. Dr. Eralp ÖZİL became the director for 6 years until he retired on 30 September 1996.

Prof. Dr. A. Alp SAYAR became the director on October 1st, 1996. After he administered in this position for 4 years, Prof. Dr. Adnan AYDIN was appointed as institute manager on 31 October 2000.

On December 1st, 2006, Prof. Dr. Sevil ÜNAL was appointed as a director and administered for 3 years.

On November 16th, 2009, Prof. Dr. Meral ÜNAL was appointed as a director and administered for 3 years.

On November 19th, 2012, Prof. Dr. Abdülkerim KAR was appointed as a director about two years.

Prof. Dr. Uğur YAHŞİ, appointed as a manager on August 29th, 2014,  is still administering in this position. 

 

29 Ağustos 2014 tarihinde  Prof. Dr. Uğur YAHŞİ atandı.

 

05 Ağustos 2017 tarihinde Enstitü Müdürü olarak atanan Prof. Dr. Bülent EKİCİ görevine devam etmektedir.
